HISTORY OF THE CLUB

The history of Cottingham Cricket Club goes back to the 1850's, but it wasn't until 1964 that the club moved from friendly only matches to playing League cricket, in the East Riding Amateur League. Since then the club has steadily expanded, forming a 2nd XI (1978), 3rd XI (1990) and 4th XI (2012). We also run junior teams, ranging from under 9 to under 17's, to become one of the largest clubs in the area.

For many years the home ground, for all games, was King George V playing fields, Northgate, Cottingham. But the opportunity arose, in 1996, for the 1st XI to play at the British Rail Sports ground in Hull. The 2nd XI followed this in 1997, the same year the 1st XI was accepted into the Humber Don League. Since then most leagues in the area have merged into the East Yorkshire Cricket Alliance, where all three of the clubs senior sides played. Another merger in 2014 saw the 1st XI join the York Senior League division 4E, and the three remaining sides joining the York Conference League.

With the medium to long term future at BR Sports ground looking bleak, the club was approached by the trustees of the Cottingham Young Peoples Sports Foundation, who recently acquired the land at Hill Top, Willerby Low Road, Cottingham. To see if we would be interested in moving to their new facility, which already had Rugby League and football teams playing there, and were more than happy to agree to the move.

A brand new cricket square was laid in the autumn of 2001, in readiness for the forthcoming season, when the 1st, 2nd and some Junior XI's played their matches. The 3rd XI and the remaining junior matches would continue to be played at King George V playing fields for the foreseeable future.

With the closure of KGV for cricket a second square was prepared on the football outfield at Hilltop in 2015. This meant that all cricket, Senior and Junior, could now be played at Hilltop. In 2017 a Women's Team was created and they play competitive and friendly games.

Welcome to Cottingham Cricket Club. We run 4 Saturday sides, a Sunday side, and Junior teams at U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17. We also provide girls teams for ages 9-15. And from 2017 we have a Women's team to play competitive and friendly matches and an Over 50's side.
